Message from BRC

A Message from the Executive Director:

Here at the Bay Ridge Center, things are in full swing as we dive headfirst into the change of season and all that it brings with it. Indeed, the element of change is definitely around us, and is reflected around us on many levels- internationally as the world economies begin to improve, country wise in the shape of the political events in our nation's capital, and locally, Mother nature's impending leaf show and our upcoming city elections. One could say that the air is charged with the electricity of possibility, and we remain hopeful that these changes are for the better.

At the BRC, we also have been faced with several internal changes as of late, which while these transitional experiences are never easy at first to accept, they ultimately provide wonderful learning and growth opportunities for us as an agency. We said goodbye to our NNORC Director Jennifer with her enthusiasm and energy and now turn to embrace Eric who will bring progress and a new perspective to the NNORC's vision. Similarly, the bittersweet departure of our senior center director Ilene, also allows us the opportunity to reinvigorate what we do, and what we offer with fresh eyes and another sense of creativity as we finalize the selection of candidates. Like two sides to a coin,
change represents chance and taking risks; more importantly however, change = hope.

This month we also shine a spotlight on the Meals on Wheels department staff and the very important work that they do each and every day. This group of outstanding men and women with
their dedication and compassion manage to change and touch the lives of hundreds of homebound seniors for the better with the delivery of a delicious and nutritious meal and a kind hello that they bring five days a week. We applaud their work and thank them for their unending efforts which truly make a difference.

   "October gave a party;
   The leaves by hundreds came -- The Chestnuts, Oaks, and
   Maples, And leaves of every name.

   The Sunshine spread a carpet,
   And everything was grand -- Miss Weather led the dancing,
   Professor Wind the band."

                                         --- George Cooper, October's Party

Best,
