LES Principal's Message

We're now well into another school year.  These years go by faster and faster!

I couldn't be prouder of last year's 8th grade class.  We received the acceptances for the specialized public high schools and have confidence in this year's as well.  Two of last year's students were accepted at Brooklyn Tech and two were accepted at LaGuardia.  This probably doesn't sound like a big deal to most of you, but it absolutely is.  Over 22,000 students took the test for Brooklyn Tech with only 1,800 being accepted - 8%.  For the vocal program at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, over 2,600 students applied for 153 spots - 5% being accepted.  So as you can see why I am so proud.

I am equally as proud of our Catholic and Independent school acceptances.  Collectively, over $125,000 in scholarships have been offered to our 8th grade.  Wow!  Our students were accepted at Xavier, Xaverian, Fontbonne, St. Saviours, Bishop Kearney, St. Joseph's and Bay Ridge Prep.

On other fronts, during the 2010-11 school year we...

Hosted a representative from the District Attorney's Office who presented a workshop to our 5th - 8th graders on Cyber Bullying. 

Introduced the Rosetta Stone Language Program into our Junior High Curriculum.  It is a three year sequence of Spanish, French, and Italian.  This will afford the students the opportunity to make a more educated decision about what language they would like to take when they enter high school.  They loved it!

Held our "Night of Fun, Fashion, and Fabulous Gifts" at the Rex Manor.  It is always a fun night of music, food, drink, and unbelievable gifts, so watch for this year's announcement.  

Our LES Drama Club put on a great production of "Oklahoma" at the theater on the Fort Hamilton Army Base.
